Thought for today

James' introduction to todays readings.

Introduction
Sometimes we think, 'how can God love such a sinful, wicked person, whom we judge never worthy of God's love and salvation. Sometimes,me even believe that about ourselves, finding it too difficult to receive God's mercy, forgiveness and love. Our readings today contradict these human, judgmental views. In the Luke reading, we hear how 'this fellow ((Jesus) welcomes sinners and eats with them'. God's loving action to bring us back to him is likened in Jesus' two parables: to a shepherd losing a sheep, a woman losing a valuable coin. When what is lost is found, there is much rejoicing, as when we sinners turn to Christ. In our first reading we hear Paul tell his own story as formerly a man of violence and hatred receiving God's mercy and proclaiming 'Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners'.

Reflection
In the Eucharist we have remembered and reenacted Jesus' death and resurrection and have received his love in bread and wine. As you 'digest' him, physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually, feel his loving mercy and acceptance percolate through your whole being, and know the rejoicing in heaven as you turn and re-offer yourself to him.
