James' introduction to todays readings.

Palm Sunday 9th April 2017

During Lent we have been preparing by works of love and self-sacrifice for the celebration of our Lord's death and resurrection. Today we begin this solemn celebration in union with the Church throughout the world. Christ enters his own city to complete his work as our Saviour, to suffer, to die, and to rise again. Let us journey with him in faith and love, so that, united with him in his sufferings; we may share his risen life.

As well as the Gospel of the Palms telling of Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem to suffer and die, we listen tothe story of Jesus arrest, trial, death, and burial from Matthew’s Gospel.

Reflection for use during the administration of Holy Communion and or at home.
With or without using a cross of crucifix, in your imagination:
Look at Jesus hanging on the cross. See his eyes looking at you, at the whole world, with love…. and with deep sorrow.
Come before him in humility…. knowing your total dependence on him for your salvation… know your need for his mercy and forgiveness, and feel deep sorrow for your sins.
Listen to his voice crying from the cross: Father forgive! Father forgive! Hear his reassuring words; see his look of compassion, forgiving and accepting you…
Open yourself to receive his mercy and forgiveness. Let your heart be full of joy and thanksgiving..
Respond to his merciful love, submitting yourself to him in love, offering yourself, your life, your all, handing everything to him in love.
